Alice Smiles!

While I had previously reported that Alice smiles (primarily in her sleep), here is documentation that she smiles while awake too! Kirke is almost a believer....

Alice is One Month Old!

In a family tradition of sorts, here are the first images of a series that we hope will mark Alice's growth over the next year. She sure is a floppy baby!

The faces of sleep.....

Alice is at her most expressive when she is falling asleep, rapidly cycling from concerned looks to pseudo-smiles. While sleep smiles are certainly gas related, the exciting news is that Sarah has been able to incite smiles while Alice is awake though there isn't yet photographic evidence of such events. Someday Kirke will believe!

Homemade blankets

We've been blessed with a lot of great homemade stuff for Alice. All of it so cute! This is a warm fleece and crocheted blanket Kirke's sister Ginny made for Alice. She sleeps with it every night.

The challenge of getting Alice out of the house

Buying a carseat rated for birth through 60lbs seemed like a good idea at the time, but now we're wishing we would have gotten one with the detachable base and EZ Carry Handle, so we could get her bundled up inside, rather than trying to get the car warmed up ahead of time, quickly strap her in, and then tuck her in with lots of blankets. Of course, we were anticipating that she'd fit in her snowsuit...

Alice's first earthquake

Alice experienced her first earthquake this morning: she seemed more interested in nursing than admiring the generalized shaking of the house. go figure.

something fits!!

One thing that we hadn't anticipated with Alice's arrival was just how small newborns could be. It turns out that 0-3 month clothing items don't really fit a 7 pound baby! Here is evidence that either our baby is growing or that we've stumbled upon a single outfit that Alice can't squirm out of!
